posi-pan:

please stop saying “pan and bi are the same it just depends on which term someone prefers”

you might think you’re respecting how pan and bi people identify

but you’re invalidating the fact that to a lot of pan and bi people, they are two different identities that have different meanings and connotations

saying identifying as pan or bi comes down to a label preference is saying that every pan and bi person could be or technically is both, when that is very much so not the case

not every pan and bi person identifies with the other term in the slightest or feels it’s an “option” for them or is comfortable with their feelings about their identity and the nuances of it being erased to conflate the two

you can’t respect that someone identifies as either pan or bi if you’re not respecting what those words mean to them

and of course one should also consider the basic fact that they are two different identities with different meanings and histories

this has been a psa in honor of pan week
