You can use apple sauce instead of melted butter/oil for dessert recipes. It will mess around with the flavor though.
As for milk, if you’re substituting something instead of water, any liquid should theoretically do. I’ve done that with soy and almond milks for things like instant pancake mix, and it works just fine.
Someone else mentioned it in the reblogs, but coffee or espresso also works, and its fucking great in chocolate cakes and stuff.
If a recipe calls specifically for something like a heavy cream/buttermilk you’re gonna want to do a little more research to find a good alternate ingredient. Non diary milks usually have less fat and a slightly waterier consistency than cow milks.
Part of me assumes that a coconut cream might work? Idk idk idk, I don’t do a lot of vegan cooking, so I’m much less familiar with what can be used as a good substitute and what can’t.
