I love a chance to brag about my alma mater.
I never got to work with the APBP myself, but I have friends who do, and the work they do is truly irreplaceable. They send out books, by request, on just about any topic, to prison inmates in the Appalachian region, totally free. In addition, they’re tremendous literacy advocates, they work tirelessly to correspond with inmates, and have even published writings by those incarcerated. If you know anyone in prison, or know people who do, you know that access to basics can be incredibly difficult, and the APBP is an invaluable resource.
