Compassion is defined as the ability to care for others, empathy is just the ability to understand and intuit the emotions of others. People with certain disabilities—such as people on the Autism Spectrum like me—often have low empathy, which sometimes causes us to be very socially akward, but it doesn’t mean we can’t be compassionate. Having low empathy does not make us less capable of kindness.

Meanwhile, plenty of people with “fully functional” empathy are cruel shitheads *precisely* because they know they’re hurting and manipulating people, and they enoy it.
